I’ve never understood why Bright as Yellow is so popular. I suppose maybe the refrain is catchy….maybe. But most of the song consists of two guitar chords and two notes in the melody. I’m sorry, but that is not a good formula for a great song. On second thought, I take that back—I make no apologies. When considering the brilliance of The Innocence Mission in their later albums, it’s almost offensive to hear someone call the song “perfect.” But, if this song is perfect, then I guess there’s hope for all proud new owners of guitars who only know two chords.
