UK-based Jon Stolber is ‘The Hungry I’. His debut EP ‘The Car’, a well recieved release, was followed by the single ‘Birthday’. Stolber’s falsetto vocal range and Rachmaninov inspired piano style have often likened his work to Muse, although gladly without overbearing pomp. His liking of Trip-Hop has also invoked comparisons to DJ Shadow, but I think the lazy “Radiohead” comparison (which pretty much any band seems to suffer from these days, whether earned of otherwise) is probably best left at the door. If you can hear Efterklang, Sigur Rós and Martin Grech in the mix, then a very good ear you have.
In 2007/2008, Stolber joined creative minds with Eric Heath (EL Heath/Strap the Button) to start work on new EP “The Hurt Kingdom” whilst also testing new material live. The fruits of this collaberation can be found in “Skeletons Dig Graves” and new free-download single “The Beginning is the End” which also includes the percussion talents of Rupert Boddington of The Black Ramps and Sebastian Domin on Violin. “The Beginning is the End”, an instrumental piece lasting over 6 minutes in length, recieved many positive (non-hyperbole) reviews, with Stobler concentrating on Guitar and Glockenspiel with Heath on Ondes Martenot and Bass Guitar duties.
