Biography

Chicago-based five-piece The Hudson Branch craft elegantly textured, deceptively subtle songs. “World Kid,” the group’s sophomore full-length due out this spring on the band’s Dogs On Tour imprint continues along this path, showcasing The Hudson Branch’s ability to write artful indie pop that balances delicacy and expansiveness.

Consisting of Cobey Bienert (vocals, guitar, ukulele, lyrics), Corey Bienert (drums, percussion, glockenspiel), Matthew Boll (bass, guitar, vocals), Jake Boll (guitar, piano, wurlitzer, vocals) and Enoch Kim (piano, synth, violin, recording engineer, vocals), The Hudson Branch formed officially in 2008. But with two sets of siblings in the band and friendships going back many years (Jake, Cobey, and Corey formed their first band together in elementary school), the dynamic is one of family.

The Hudson Branch is just one limb of the ever-evolving family tree that is Dogs On Tour, a multimedia art collective whose collaborators include musicians, photographers, videographers, writers, radio producers, and storytellers. 2011 proved a banner year for both The Hudson Branch and Dogs On Tour. Their collaboration on the piece “Kohn” – an exploration into the mind of their slow-talking friend Kohn Ashmore – won Best New Artist at the 2011 Third Coast International Audio Festival landing them a prominent feature on NPR/WNYC’s RadioLab and accolades from audiophiles, public radio acolytes, and many more.

Recorded at Soma Studios with John McEntire (Broken Social Scene, Tortoise) and produced by Neil Strauch (Andrew Bird, Iron & Wine, Anathallo) at Engine Studios, “World Kid” retains the refined sonic architecture of the band’s debut album “Tightrope Walker” but sees The Hudson Branch embracing new musical territory.
