If the old adage of ‘it’s all sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll’ has become a tired, hackneyed phrase in rock’s bible, new Brighton based quintet The Hornblower Brothers well and truly bury it. Fresh from the back of support slots for the likes of Jeffrey Lewis and Noah and the Whale, Brightonian favourites The Hornblower Brothers are set to create waves in 2010.

Originally from the dark wilderness of West Yorkshire, the Brothers came to the south coast in 2007 armed with just a melodica, bontempi and acoustic guitar, and began writing songs about everything from watching car chases on the TV - to caterpillars becoming butterflies. Interested in doing little else but putting ramshackle pop to Nathaniel’s rhymes, their irresistible folk-pop antics have gained them a loyal battalion of fans.

The Hornblower Brothers aim their indie-pop arrows in the direction of the existential rather than how many groupies can squeeze into the back of their van. This debut EP is a jaunty, summery Popsicle, frozen in the minds of five young chaps that first bonded over the satire and surreal sounds of Half Man Half Biscuit, it bounces and jerks with insatiably chugging melodies and shuffling drum-beats and as The Hornblower Brothers’ opening gambit it’s an endearing first bow.

I am so enjoying the random tracks I have. I want more! You're like a cross between Asaurus records type bands, and milky wimpshake? Maybe :o) Going to definitely come see you guys in freebutt!
