The Home Guard

Peterborough, England

To get the best idea about The Home Guard in the shortest time possible, have a quick listen to Champagne Socialist and Other People. The former is a bass-driven indie rocker with a Britpop and synthy new wave flavour, whilst the latter is a progressive folk ballad with pianos, flutes and a heavy guitar section - but try not to let that put you off!

As these two songs demonstrate, one thing The Home Guard really strive to do is incorporate a range of genres into their music. You’ll hear elements of , , , , , , , and a few more besides. For this reason, it’s very difficult to pigeon-hole The Home Guard: their favourite tag they’ve received on is “”, and they wish they’d thought of it themselves.

The Home Guard’s main influences include Queen, Jethro Tull, Madness, Elvis Colstello, Blur, Van der Graaf Generator and The Beatles, but for a more extensive (and slightly esoteric) list, see their MySpace profile. By recording material based on the sort of music that they themselves enjoy, coupled with their rather varied collection of influences, it’s no surprise that they hardly fit in with mainstream trends. If any of The Home Guard’s music sounds close to the current musical fashions, rest assured that this is purely coincidental!

  • vjsupersaint Catch The Home Guard on tonight's show. From 2100-2300 CET. Or 2000-2200 GMT. Worldwide listeners will need to check their clocks with these timings. The show is hosted by Sussilo. But she's too modest to say so. I'm not, modesty doesn't do when this great lady. Gives her all to getting great lesser known artists heard. Please bring all your fans/friends with you. The show is really worth listening to. Thanks to all that do from Mike.

Oh my golly, nearly 17,000 plays now. That's well I'll say the rest later today. It's a fantastic effort by everyone involved in our little listener power exercise. Here's to The Home Guard going on from this now. It will be no more than is deserved from such a great band. What a great bunch of listeners you've got here on Last.

Going to see Otway in Cambridge tomorrow night at Junction 2. I think everyone should see Otway at least once. Even during a homeguardathon, If anyone will be also having a party to relieve the boredom on the 10.43 train from Cambridge to Ipswich, please say hello. I will have an Otway Band t-shirt on. Cheers Chris
