I was not involved up at the north town mall
As a matter of fact I didn't even know that that's where it happened

The Hold Steady are the finest rock band of the last ten years. And I think my attorney's gonna second that notion.

For me, it sounds like "American Pub-Rock" and reminds me of Elvis Costello.

I don't dig The Hold Steady but I respect the extensive display of Bud tall boys in the uploaded pics. Really, anyone who hangs around drinking tall boys in a paper bag is OK by me

To the folks who say this sounds like "The Boys Are Back In Town"... it doesn't. [2] Maybe the vocals' rhythm and tone, the song structure, the shuffle beat of the song, the strum-stop guitar style, the guitar tone, and possibly the production/mixing. But honestly, you could draw a lot of similarities like that between totally unrelated bands. Listen with a more discerning ear, people, before you make broad-ass statements like that.

To the folks who say this sounds like "The Boys Are Back In Town"... it doesn't. It DOES sound almost exactly like "Hold The Line" by Toto, though. But I'll forgive 'em for that because the lyrics are phenomenal. "It started recreational, ended kinda medical" sums up 90% of addicts' stories in six devastating words. The it does the same thing more poetically with "It started hot and soft and then it tightened up its tentacles". The opening sets the song up perfectly too; "I was not involved at the Northtown Mall, in fact I didn't even know that's where it's happened". Straight away, the strung-out narrator / police interviewee's given himself away. So very well written.
