The Haunted

There is more than one artist that goes by this name.

1) The Haunted (Canadian Band)

The Haunted were an influential garage rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band was formed by Jurgen Peter (guitar) in 1965 and went on to release several records before finally disbanding in 1971[1]. They were among the first Canadian bands to achieve a level of success in their musical genre.

In 1965, Jurgen Peter joined up with Bob Burgess (vocals), Al Birmingham (lead guitar), Glenn Holmes (bass), and Peter Symes (drums) to form The Haunted. Besides Jurgen Peter, the other constant band member through most of its six year history was lead guitarist Al Birmingham. The band membership that recorded the band’s best known song, “1-2-5” was composed of Al Birmingham (lead guitar), Jurgen Peter (rhythm guitar), Bob Burgess (vocals), Mason Shea (bass) and Dave Wynne (drums).[2]

The band’s first big break came after winning a Battle Of The Bands at the Montreal Forum in 1965, beating such competitors as David Clayton-Thomas and the Shays. The first prize was studio time that they used to record the two songs on their first 45rpm, 1-2-5, with Eight O’Clock This Morning as the B-side. The first pressing of this record had the band name misprinted as “The Hunted.”[3] Ironically, the later pressing with the band’s name correctly spelt are now more difficult to locate.

I don't know about all these comments saying the new EP is their best shit in awhile and better than the last two records. I gave it a listen and kind of thought it was rather run-of-the-mill and nothing to write home about. Granted the recent stuff the band did with Dolving behind the mic was experimental, but in my opinion it's not a bad thing for a band to grow a little bit. Not to mention the bigger picture being their live shows, Dolving could still deliver those older really killer songs in a live capacity. I'm kind of skeptical of how Aro is going to sound on material from "The Dead Eye" or even "Versus" if they go there, who knows maybe we will be seeing setlists that consist entirely of Marco Aro era material, with obviously some of the Dolving hits, especially "99" thrown in. When Dolving and Anders made their exit, they shoulda all quit and went to go focus on "At The Gates" 100% considering they're working on a new album and will no doubt tour to support said album.

Looking forward to this album, whilst I did enjoy the last few albums, I know this new one will demolish them.

That new EP is much better than anything off the last couple albums. The Eye of the Storm title track is ok, but it has definitely grown on me (I just wouldn't want an entire album of mid tempo groove like that). The other 2 songs are pretty fucking awesome. Some killer riffs, and great mix.

he died of testicular cancers. i havent heard this band since that revolver album was released. the second and third album were the best ones to me, with the 2001 live album being the best release period... i just heard this band called the resistance, that has marco aro on vocals, it sounds just like one kill wonder.

I am interested in the reformation. The Marco albums are by far my favorite from The Haunted. However, I did like Dolving's hardcore style screaming, but absolutely hate his clean singing (sounds like Nickelback). Versus wasn't a very good album, the Unseen is complete shit and never grows on me. The Dead Eye has a few good songs, but way too many emo-metal tracks. The First 4 were pretty righteous albums. I wonder who will write the new songs. Jonas and Jensen certainly write good music. Ola Englund sure can shred, but his song writing for Feared is kind of boring and doesn't have that The Haunted thrash feel.

I perfer Dolving's vocals, but Made Me Do IT, to this day, is one of my top albums. I love Erlandsson's drummung style too. I honestly haven't heard Unseen, but all the other albums are slightly different and are good in their own right. Exception being The Dead Eye. To me, it sounds like Made Me Do It's B side.

I'm going to miss Dolving, but Aro was the only logical choice for vocals again. Definitely looking forward to new material!
