Biography

.The Hafler Trio is a conceptual and sound art collaborative between Andrew M. McKenzie, the only permanent member, and guest musicians. The project has seen the release of numerous albums and CDs in experimental musical styles ranging from electronica, cut-up, ambient, environmental soundscape, musique concrete, electro-acoustic, and audio-montage as cinema for the years from 1982 to present, each of which utilise graphic design and text for contextual juxtaposition with the recordings, as well as having a diverse but concrete philosophical and sometimes quasi-religious framework to place them in.

Can you even hear the difference between a 44.1kHz sampling rate and a 1000+ sampling rate with fifty year old ears?

he (they) do(es) have a point...computer speakers (or worthless earbuds) dont hold a candle against a beefed up stereo system, or seeing (hearing) them (him) live. of course, all largely propaganda (of course). have you been paying attention? i'm going to the other side of the playground.

oh yeah. i am proud to say that i am a Hafler Trio fan that "doesn't get" Hafler Trio by the fact that I play your MP3s. I am more than happy to keep it that way. While I am doing this, I will be purchasing your albums, even despite your lack of respect for me, the listener. I do this because of my appeciation of your ideas. If adding +10,000 more samples to the sampling rate is going to alter the "esoteric" effects of your music, McKenzie, please explain how in the form of yet another release accompanied by a 20+ page essay. I will be sure to purchase it. you are the pimp, i am the whore. keep them coming.

Trying to remember the name of a Hafler Trio track-- It was edited together out of a BBC new report. If you aren't listening closely it sounded like nothing was wrong, but if you listened closely you realize that it doesn't make any sense. I heard it on the college radio in the late 90's, but can't remember the title or album.

NOT background music. Nor music to fall asleep to. As I fell asleep to Walk Gently through the gates of joy(not by boredom..just tiredness) and fell into a dream seemingly directed by Maya Deren and Lynch in his more sinister moods... The dream was about some little girl called MENACE..and I awoke to the sound of steel crickets grating themselves through my brain. Background music.. NO. You have to appreciate several, several books, ideas and concepts before even thinking of approaching this material. With that said... it's worth the jump IF you listen to music for experience rather than for enjoyment..

/"You are perfecly free to listen to any Halfer trio album you wish at your own responsibility. "/ - thank you. /"All it takes is a bit of time, openness and a certain quality of attention. And the desire to get there, seeing that you aren´t there yet."/ if the idea is that someone scrobbling music on Last.fm always surfs the internet, drinks beer, eats pancakes and masturbate to some porn at the same time then I do think that it's silly. why would I want to do that to H3o? it's hardly ideal background music.

hello there dr. I won´t argue with you, you are creating a problem out of something that isn´t one. You are perfecly free to listen to any Halfer trio album you wish at your own responsibility. However i will say this: it is possible to experience something quite unusual and interesting while listening to h3o, something you won´t find in any other artists. This is what it is about. All it takes is a bit of time, openness and a certain quality of attention. And the desire to get there, seeing that you aren´t there yet. Now good luck. I am out of here.

more, if i can take a liberty of arguing with silliness, I must say that: [1] Andrew McKenzey is himself encouraging lazy way of dealing with sound-art by distributing his work, and [2] he's himself concerned with making money by selling it. and trying to diagnose things: how man who for so many years dealt with breaking boundaries in music using new media and unconventional ideas with a humor sometimes, becomes serious fascist on the war with the internet - I think that [1] he grew old and starts to fight things that he doesn't sees a way to join or [2] Annie Sprinkle put a rod up his ass and it stayed there to these day.

In short: [1] if McKenzie have a problem with the use of copyrighted images and Last.fm doesn't want to do anything with it, he should probably sue them. Anyway it's problem between Last.fm and an artist. [2] I don't think that H3o have anything to say in question of existence of this profile. I'm rather sure that it's existence doesn't break any existing copyright law. Still, it's a problem between Last.fm and an artist. As to problems between artist and his listeners: [3] Thank you for sharing McKenzie's opinion with us. I, personally, took it under consideration and chose to ignore it. And [4] yes, I think that ignoring artist extravagant wishes is not necessarily crime against his art. I did read Blake's poems from normal printed book, not from his hand illustrated manuscripts and still I'm sure I've did really read Blake's poems and don't really feel much sorry for it. [5] Sorry for my English.
