Biography

The Go Team was a 1980s band from Olympia, Washington consisting of Tobi Vail and Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening.

The Go Team regularly released 7” singles on Calvin’s independent record label K Records throughout the year 1989. The records were often collaborations with other musicians and the musical style varied from single to single. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Billy Karren, The Legend!, Dave Nichols of The Canannes, Donna Dresch of Team Dresch, Lois Maffeo, and Jeffery Kennedy were some of the artists the duo worked with.

Tobi Vail went on to form Bikini Kill with Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox and occasional Go Team member, Billy Karren. After Bikini Kill broke up, Tobi, Kathi and Billy played together in the band The Frumpies. Presently, she plays with the band Spider and the webs. Calvin Johnson currently records as a solo artist.

    Hey, for some reason my 62 scrobbles for The Go Team, the American band with Calvin Johnson and Tobi Vail have been converted to scrobbles for the UK band with an exclamation point in their name, and the original Go Team has been removed from my library! That is not cool.
