The Gloworms are Jon Brenner (piano accordion), Colin Cotter (banjo, stompbox), Laurel Swift (fiddle, voice, clogs). Formed in London in 2001 as an English Ceilidh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Ceilidh#English_ceilidh band, they have appeared at many festivals and dance clubs in the UK and mainland Europe, including WOMAD and the South Bank Folk Festival in the UK. They play a mixture of traditional English dance tunes, together with tunes written by the band and other contemporary folk musicians; the tunes are arranged into sets which are built around the aim of producing music for English ceilidh dancing. Although they play acoustic instruments they have absorbed a range of sounds from electric and electronic dance music. Their first recordings were featured on Laurel Swift’s solo album “Beam” in 2005, followed by their debut album “Running Joak” which was released in 2007. They also appeared as guest artists on Simon Emmerson’s recent BBC2 Folk Award winning album “The Imagined Village”.
