alice dee (4:05)
From alice dee / carny (single)
Q. What is alice dee about?
A. Project MK-Ultra.
Q. What is “und hoch hinauswollen”?
A. We wanted some cool sounding Deutsche to yell over the Nazi rally and jack-boot sounds, and so we came up with this - I think we Babelfished something like “I’m so high”. We never wrote down the original English so later we tried to reverse-engineer it and found these two translations:
“and to fly high”
“and high want to get out”
These suggest to us euphoria, paranoia, banners and flags, and especially being on a bad acid trip trapped in some laboratory - the entire song encapsualted in some German gibberrish!
Q. What is Magic Number Nine?
A. An imaginary lysergic acid diethylamide formula.
Q. Who is Alice Dee?
A. An Edgewood nurse who sent unwitting soldiers to the dark side of the moon.
Q. What are those sounds at the beginning?
A. We sampled a documentary about Project MK-Ultra called “Bad Trip at Edgewood.”
Q. This song is scary. Are you a Nazi or something?
A. Say, brainless, take another listen. This song obviously takes a dim view of how the CIA secretly used Nazi techniques on American soldiers.
