There are, at least, two groups by this name.

Gentle People (without ‘the’!) are a South African popgroup, which charted in South Africa in 1971 with the single ‘Rain, Rain’, Rain’, peaking at #3. It also peaked at #3 in Rhodesia in that same year. Their other two hit singles in Southern Africa were ‘It’s Summertime Again’ (1971) and ‘Jump Shout Do What You Want’ (1972). ‘It’s Summertime Again’ reached #20 in South Africa and #3 in Rhodesia, and ‘Jump Shout Do What You Want’ peaked at #20 in Rhodesia.

The Gentle People are a UK-based group. The members were Dougee Dimensional, Honeymink, Valentine Carnelian and Laurie Lemans. They made four albums: ‘Soundtracks For Living’ (1997), ‘Mix Gently’ (1997), ‘Simply Faboo’ (1999) and ‘I Love The Gentle People’ (2007). They worked with Aphex Twin and DMX Krew on remixes.
