A duo formed by Mark Solotroff and Isidro Reyes, both key players in the power-electronics outfit BLOODYMINDED, a unit known for its confrontational live shows. The Fortieth Day was born out of ongoing recording sessions initiated in mid 2005, which were originally intended for an aborted, more-psychedelic, rock-oriented project. Another band, A Vague Disquiet, also utilizes elements of these weekly sessions. The project’s uniquely dense and murky music is created though an improvisational approach using guitar, bass, analog synth, and drum machine. Here, Solotroff and Reyes show off their kinder, gentler side, using guitar, bass, and synth to improvise “sustained, withering blasts of high-pitched noise that are as distinct from one another as spotlights sweeping across the night sky; jackhammer clatter, jet-engine whines, and forlorn keyboard melodies dart in and out of those huge sounds with the grace and impunity of plovers picking a crocodile’s teeth”
In late 2006, The Fortieth Day performed live on WLUW 88.7 FM Chicago, collaborating with Sshe Retina Stimulants, from Italy. In 2007 they began performing live publicly, always collaborating with video artist Lisa Slodki (AKA Noise Crush), to provide a striking visual element to the performances.
