Chicago, United States (1999 – present)

Benn Jordan is an musician operating under many pseudonyms. Since 1999 his most widely distributed and eclectic music has been released under the name of The Flashbulb, whose songs mostly fall under the / genre. Other names Benn operates under are Benn Jordan, Q-Bit, Flexe, Dr. Lefty, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, DJ ASCII, Lucid32, Dysrhythmia, chr15tpunch3r, Sixty Six Ex, and rnd16.

Born in 1978 and raised in the sketchy Ashburn district of South Chicago, Benn Jordan began playing -influenced guitar before reaching the age of attending school. Without any proper musical training, his awkward style of inverted guitar playing and composition knew few restrictions and eventually panned out into full blown albums recorded on tape machines in his bedroom in the mid 1990’s. Being a one man band, Jordan grew quite fond of electronic instruments, which for a period of a few years dominated his compositions as he gained worldwide notoriety as an avant-garde electronic musician using the name “The Flashbulb”.

In more recent years (and 30-something album releases later), Jordan has focused his efforts on writing more cinematic pieces and using an instrumental style closer to his roots. On the other side of releasing music and touring, Jordan has become a sought after film and television composer, most notably writing for Dove’s viral “Evolution” campaign, and branding trademark melodies for companies such as General Mills and Toyota.

The Flashbulb has achieved the dream of all composers: an orchestra at the fingertips, in this case, Jordan’s beautiful samples. He utilized his samples well and constructed a brilliant, nuanced, profound work of art. Nothing Is Real is great music. It does not matter if these tracks will not make the playlists; Jordan aspires to more than playlists, and to more than awards.

i remember once upon a time i racked up about 2k flashbulb plays in as many months, then wiped it from my charts and didn't listen to it again for a number of years. it's great how albums like red extensions of me, flexing habitual, and parts of kirlian selections have held up very well after all this time, as i've discovered recently. not too sure about his newer stuff though, i think idm/drill n bass flashbulb will always be my favorite.

I see people scrobbling Once Weekly and Three Hundred CC. Such different sounds, but both so incredible. In fact, so many different distinct sounds, but they are all highly appealing in their own ways. This man is a genius, and I do not say that lightly. He may be the first artist I've ever heard that I consider to truly understand music.
