About this album

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends was a collaboration project that occurred over the span of 2010 and 2011. It was released in a limited 10,000 copy quantity on Record Store Day 2012. Heady Fwends, although a collaboration album is considered by The Flaming Lips a full album. Guests such as Ke$ha, Tame Impala, Bon Iver, Lightening Bolt and Nick Cave as well as many more appear on the album.

Every vinyl copy of The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends was unique in color. There are also two version of the vinyl release; one where the Cyberman sample on “2012 (You Must Be Upgraded)” from Doctor Who is indeed an actual sample and another where Henry Rollins replicates the sample.

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends was also released on CD sometime after RSD 2012 and features an exclusive track with Ghostland Observatory, although the final track on the original Vinyl release “I Don’t Want You To Die” featuring Christ Martin of Cold Play was removed from the CD release.
