A comedy troupe consisting of Phil Austin, Peter Bergman, David Ossman, and Philip Proctor, The Firesign Theatre have been creating "weirdly cool" recordings since the mid-1960s. Fans of old radio will love their rich, hallucinatory environments, dripping with satire and filled with cultural references revealing themselves to the perceptive listener. In 2005, the classic album Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me The Pliers was selected to be preserved in the US National Recording Registry.

  • RIP, Phil Austin.
  • THE THEATRE HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN IN FAVOR OF THE YOUTUBE CINEPLEX.
  • Oh, You talking about Nancy!
  • I keep finding unlikely sources sampling Firesign in their music, mostly hip-hop actually. The latest I've found is Faith No More "covering" Poop's Principles from the Dear Friends radio show/subsequent album. Here's a recording of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wro5L-lmuhc
