The Fairys is the creation of singer/songwriter (pianist/guitarist/trumpeter) Art Terry. The band existed originally as the sole vehicle for Art’s music, and released two singles, Scary In London/Marystopes and Princess/Percy. Doing time as a Fairy has become something of a rite of passage for members of London’s alternative music scene, and past members have included Audley Genus, Iona Grant, Genene Edwards, Naoko Aota, Dan Livette, Flippy Baulsch, Vedina Mose & Tom Rodwell, along with many others.
Art has recently been trading more often under his own name, with a solo album due later this year on Frizz Records , and The Fairys has become the name of his live backing band. Current Fairys include Clean Cut Mark, drums (August), Earl Grey, trombone (Skamonics/Earl Grey & The Tea Ladies), Maree Choie, clarinet/vocals/piano (August), Raphael Mann, bass/vocals/piano (August/Mr Hudson & The Library) and Shohei Kawamoto, bass clarinet/flute (AKA Baraki).
