15 Jan 2010, 23:11 by FinalPizzaHutFind all these albums, along with to 25 EPs/Demos of 2009 and hundreds more artists and albums on Watch the Tapes! Comments are appreciated!
2009 was quite a year. A lot happened in the world, in my life, and in music. In theory, those all seem like distinct things - but retrospectively, they can be hard to differentiate from one another. Events blur together, timelines become jumbled, memories get obscured by the haze of passing time; memories of how I felt, memories of people I know (or knew), and memories of the music that soundtracked it all. Most people seem content to simply let these things slip into the past, marching merrily into the future, but I'm never able to fully let go, it seems, and this process of archiving my favorite albums of the year reflects that in a big way.
When I look back at this list in the year(s) to come, I'm not going to see an objective list of the best albums of 2009; I'm not even going to see a list I agree with anymore. …

The Call Up - The Clash
Commentary: I suppose I could milk one more juxtaposition analogy out of this, comparing The Clash to a street gang. But that's going a bit too far, don't you think?
Winner: It's called the Glorious Ninth for a reason, my droogies!
Sasquatch - Camel
Crazy - Icehouse
Commentary: I wouldn't put anybody's hit single up against this Camel song, because everybody knows that the hit single is always the worst song on the album, right? Unless it's one of those albums where the only good song is the hit single, but that's a topic for another day.
Winner: Sasquatch continues to lumber toward the finish line.
Only the Future - Joe Jackson
Walk Away - The English Beat
Commentary: I think The Beat actually has the edge on lyrics here, but I love the way JJ keeps building up the layers of music in this piece. He could teach the Chemical Brothers a thing or two about subtlety.
