“It’s been quite a while since bands like Handsome, Quicksand, and Helmet topped the college radio world with their stop-start, harmonically distorted riffing and gritty, soul-bearing compositions. But outta sight hardly means outta mind, since a whole generation of bands have been influenced by the aforementioned riff rockers. A band like the Elvi (think the plural of “Elvis”) has certainly taken inspiration from those bands, as evidenced by the sweaty, clangy, minimally produced Indestructible Suit. The album undoubtedly keeps the Helmet dream alive, injecting it with a goofy yet young n’ hungry vibe. The Chicago-based foursome - decked out in black suits in the liner notes - employs kitschy lyrics, brimming with inside joke type of references that make you wonder just who ate a Southwestern Death Omelette or ordered X-ray specs from a catalog, all sung over spirited chords that would make any self-respecting punk rocker proud. Tense barnburners include “Emily, Let’s Go,” the title track, and “Too Lame for TV.” Proceed to rock out with your um, you-know-what, out.”
