also yeah i never interpreted this as victim blaming, more just expressing frustration & despair about an awful, relatable situation, whether you have been or known the victim. (also, mathiansim, what???)
I don't really think this is victim blaming. I have too many friends that this song could apply to. I know they could do something to better their awful situation, but they don't. :( It's not blaming the victim -- it's just stating a terrible situation that happens way too frequently.
I know it sounds like victim blaming on the surface, but I always felt like Amanda was singing this to herself like a lullaby, to tell herself that she shouldn't fuck people out of a dark and low place. It's like a plea to yourself to see through the bullshit and love yourself enough to stop choosing sex partners who don't see you as human.
I love how it states her musical talents with in conveying one of her many instrumental accomplishments has been "Toy Piano" How couldn't you love a girl who signifies a portrayal of her interests with a "toy piano" fucking -A. I adore Dresden Dolls ♥♥♥
