This album is awesome, very dark sounding and the bass sounds excellent. The whole album flows from one song to the next, even the hits are good (including the oddly placed harpsichord solo in Love Me Two Times). Too bad they lost it somewhat on their next few albums.
I actually meant to say "Unhappy Girl" and not "You're Lost Little Girl" below, but the brilliance of this record is that EVERY song is awesome, so it works either way. But for the record "Unhappy Girl" is the one I slightly prefer out of the two songs here with "Girl" in the title. :-)
The hits/more famous songs here ("Love Me Two Times," "People are Strange," "When the Music's Over," perhaps the title track) are amazing, but for me it's the deeper cuts that really make this one: "You're Lost Little Girl," "Moonlight Drive" and "My Eyes Have Seen You" in particular have this dark, forboding atmosphere to them that is nonetheless alluring and sexy. I really love this record.
Glad to see this one getting some love on Last.fm. Most of the critics seem to think this is a step down from the debut. I wonder if they're listening to the same album we are, because for my money this is the Doors' best.
