"The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)" is a 1971 song by The Doors, which appears on L.A. Woman, their final album with frontman Jim Morrison. The music was written by Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore. The spoken word lyrics, written by Morrison, come from a poem he wrote in 1968, three years before the music was written.

This song rules and The Doors are one of the best bands of all time. 1nnervision had no fucking idea what he was talking about.

Now, listen to this and I'll tell you 'bout the heartache I'll tell you 'bout the heartache and the loss of God I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night The meager food for souls forgot I'll tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul I'll tell you this No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

Listening to the 6th and final Doors studio album with Jim on lead vocals " L A Woman". Released in April 1971 and for my money their best. On December 12, !970 at 'The Warehouse' in New Orleans mid concert Jim took the microphone stand and beat the stage repeatedly destroying a section of it, then sat down on stage and did not perform for the rest of the set. After the show Densmore, Manzarek and Krieger met and decided it was time to end their live performances and for Jim to retire, which he did moving to Paris. Mr Morrison died July 3, 1971 at the age of 27 of undetermined causes (later came out it was probably a massive overdose of heroin but no autopsy was ever performed). The end of a promising life and the best band of the era.

One of the reasons why The Doors aren't one of the best bands of all time is because they have a lot of great songs AND a lot of shitty ones unfortunately. This is one of their more forgettable shitty ones. "I wanna tell you about Texas Radio and the Big Beat" immediately tells my mind to skip. Hate the riff too, like a shitty blues band with a median age of 65.

Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance; Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream: I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft. We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping. This is the land where the Pharaoh died.
