    One of the first integrated groups. Alan Freed had began playing "Black music" on the radio. He began recording Black performers signing groups in Cleveland before moving on to New York where he had shows with mixed audiences. Several were closed down by the police. On the Chitling circuit not only did mixed groups play for the Black audiences but even all White groups. One of the most popular was Bill Haley and the Comets. (My experience was at the Howard Theater in Washington, D. C. EVERY WEEK!
