The Darkness were an english hard rock band. They were widely regarded as a glam rock band, but the members disputed this and saw themselves as a classic hard-rock band. Their highly retro style of music was influenced by rock bands like Queen, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Sparks, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, T. Rex, Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy. They were best known for the soaring falsetto of their lead singer Justin Hawkins, whose departure in 2006 resulted in the dissolution of the band.
The Darkness were a Brit Award-winning English hard rock band that formed in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 2000. Originally comprising lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist Justin Hawkins, his guitarist and backing vocalist brother Dan Hawkins, bassist Frankie Poullain and drummer Ed Graham. Dan had initially seen his brother’s potential of being a frontman after Justin did an impressive recreation of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ at a New Year’s Eve party in 1999, thrown by Justin and Dan’s aunt in her pub The Swan at Gillingham just over the River Waveney in Norfolk, despite the fact that Justin was only miming to the original song. Playing at first only in pubs and bars, their pyrotechnic guitar solos and over the top performances soon brought them to public knowledge.
Achieving major success in the UK in 2003, The Darkness received considerable radio airplay of their singles, including I Believe in a Thing Called Love and the Christmas hit Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End). Their debut album, Permission to Land, reached number one in the UK charts and went on to sell one and a half million copies in the UK alone.

they will definately get back together-bros dan and justin split up due to getting p*ssed off with each other on too many drugs and alcopops (when the darkness were at their peak) but dan was playing darkness songs recently on stage live WITH justin and his solo band (hot leg) not that long ago! i think justin will keep hot leg going as a solo effort. the darkness official site is still online, im betting a reform late this yr or next when they finally realise they are all better off playing together-hope they get bassist frankie poullain back. you should check out the Hot Leg album, sounds like an ever more over the top version of the Darkness, songs arent as strong but still a good listen, and most of all alot of fun (even more fun than Susan Boyles WILD HORSES stones cover! ) lol ;)
