Skelp was formed in September of 1995 by singer/guitarist Dave McEwan and bassist Ted Watts. Ted Watts was invited by his friend and former band mate, Steve Lewis, to jam with some enigmatic Scotsman in his Alexandria home. The Scotsman turned out to be Dave McEwan from the D.C. based band Belfire.

Jimmy Duke (Born James Andrew Duke on the 29th of June, 1990) is the younger of two twins. He writes the majority of his songs about his friends. He is albino and has a small ear (on the left side). While rejected from his social community, James writes most of his material in a dark room with only his mother and brother to keep him company.
