Biography

The Cookies were a girl group in the 1950s to 1960s. Its membership originally consisted of Dorothy Jones, Ethel (Darlene) McCrea and Dorothy’s cousin, Beulah Robertson. Robertson was replaced in 1956 by Margie Hendricks. McCrea and Hendricks quit to form The Raelettes (Ray Charles’ female backup group) in 1958. Dorothy reformed the group in 1959 with another cousin, Margaret Ross and Darlene McCrea’s younger sister, Earl-Jean. This trio had the greatest success as the Cookies, under their own name, as backing vocals for other artists, and recording demos for Aldon Music, under the direction of Carole King and Gerry Goffin.

In April 1967 they released their last record, produced by The Tokens

I love this group so much. Earl-Jean McCrea has one of the sweetest voices I've ever heard. Though I really wish there would be more consistent information about them available.

Yeah, they were quit an influence on The Smiths too, funnily enough - great band though. Only To Other People and Foolish Little Girl are examples of what pop music should really be like.

Wow...who would have guessed that Murs would have stole inspiration from Foolish Little Girl for his song Silly Girl?
