Dennis Hopper's photojournalist character in Apocalypse Now was based on Sean Flynn. That along with "Charlie Don't Surf" (obviously) and the face gear Mick Jones is wearing in the "Rock the Casbah" music video are just a few references to that film.

'doesnt go nowhere'...?..Every song in this album has a meaning.and they all go somewhere. The song is about Erol Flynn's son.. he went off to the Vietnam War, by choice when he couldve well stayed behind and been involved in a film career he had going Hence the lyrics..'ya know he heard the drums of war//and each man knows what he's looking for'...muchaveer is right, this song is extremely sad...you have to reach into this song, if you just let it play I guess you'll hear a song that doesnt 'go nowhere'.

this song is extremely sad. i cry whenever i listen to it. dunno why, maybe because of the way that joe sings it or because of the saxophone. probably both.
