"This isn't punk." Who cares? It's good music irrespective of the label. If you define punk as short, fast songs with one chord at most then nothing the Clash did after the first LP is punk and many of the songs on the first LP aren't punk either. The Clash was/is bigger than a silly label like "punk." Anyway, this is my favorite Clash album. I love all the weird shit on the second side.
This album suffered from the disco overload that Public Image Limited suffered from in the 80's, but it's still got some of the greatest Clash tracks (Know Your Rights, Should I Stay or Should I Go, Rock the Casbah, Straight to Hell, Atom Tan, Sean Flynn) ever written.
On my copy of the record "Combat Rock" there's a song called "Inoculated City" with an infomercial for some toilet flushing cleaner thing but on the torrent of the album I downloaded the infomercial is not there. WTF! i thought it was genius and hilarious for them to include that infomercial and it inspired me to make a song about Billy Mays (RIP).
Wow.. I just bought this album (I bought my first Clash album like 12 years ago..). I had heard Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Rock the Casbah and Straight to Hell (of course), and thought the rest of the album would just be fillers and some weird stuff ala Sndinista!. Well, I was wrong ;) Actually, I like almost every song.
