I love The Clash, they're my favourite band!!!! The Call Up should be higher on the chart, some of their best lyrics.

Combat Rock is a great discription of them. As is Clash. They intended to Clash with things. Great band name when you think about it

  • e-guillotina

Strummer called its own style as Combat rock. Why don't we all tag The Clash as Combat rock.

    January 2007
  • e-guillotina

me parece increible que en las tags no aparezca ska, reggae, dub o rockabilly (a sort of translation) - i find it annoying that they are not tagged neither as ska, reggae, dub nor rockabilly. Amazing. ¿Indie? People is crazy

The Clash are a truly brilliant band and no one should ever doubt that. Their songs are true classics and pure legendary.

    January 2007
  • gaz_

The Clash for me are like equally punk and classic rock.

    January 2007
  • Strummerjones

I only like the most important, defining bands of punk aka the single most important youth movement since rock'n'roll inthe 1950s, which clearly means I have no interest in punk at all. Or it means I actually love it, but can't admit as such after the baggage of decades of dogshit me-too bands. Either way will do! Yeesh.

    January 2007
  • Don_Diego

Punk was just a passing fad. Besides, The Clash were far too talented.

I HATE PUNK!... but i love the clash... isn't that curious? =)

  • adistu

try checking out for example bands with less than 100,000-200,000 plays and see their similar artists on last.fm. Don't think you'll going to find much mistakes.

    January 2007
  • adistu

allmusic sucks so great, just beacause they only review mainstreeam artists. it's less than 1/10 of the music on last.fm.it's not all bad music,no way,but if a band hasn't made it on a pretty popoular label, they won't write about it. Plus some genres are really mixed up. Seriously, this similar artists are the true ones not for the genres, but for so much more reasons.

  • Kowalski66

There's no better soundtrack for working nights at a shit job in a petrol station than London Calling and the singles box set. I'd probably have started huffing fumes if it weren't for Hateful making me dance round like a twat.

    January 2007
  • Olejakobe

so tired of this similar-crap! who gives a f***..? guns of brixton - the greatest song ever written!

    January 2007
  • Lambear

adistu, Don't be silly. Sites like allmusic.com give you an exhaustive list of similar artists to any particular artist you're looking for. I love The Beatles, but I know they're not similar to The Clash.

    January 2007
  • adistu

That's thanks to all the retarded people that only listen to MTV crap, the radio and stuff like that. People that didn't discover that there's a whole world of good music out there, far far away from the (mostly) shamefull popular acts.

    January 2007
  • adistu

It's not banged in the nails that one must listen to only one genre of music, right, but when an overall status is made I really think I does turn up to be a pretty true statistic. Pretty different kind of genres appear only in very mainstreem artist, like with 2+ mil scrobbles. They may not be the same style of music, but they are certanly similar in popularity.

    January 2007
  • adistu

Lambear, you should think maby a little before you post. Do you honestly belive the last.fm staff or any other human force or any kind of force can listen to all the bands that ever recorded something and draw a line determining the similar artists? And your example is terrible.

    January 2007
  • Lambear

They should determine similar artists by similar style, not by what individual users listen to. For ezample, I could listen to nothing but Mozart and Wu-Tang Clan. Because I could listen to both, does that make them similar? I don't think so.

    January 2007
  • dieskies

I know that, I never really thought that Beatles fans would listen to the Clash.

    January 2007
  • adm-uk

Similar Artists are calculated users listening to bands, not by style structure or content.

    January 2007
  • dieskies

    The Beatles are that similar?

I don't really get all the 'This is England' love, it's a passable song on a shit album, but is too marred by drum machines to be really good in my opinion. Mind you, the new '83 demos show that CTC was originally going to be a fascinating album full of promise and musical depth. It's tragic how that vision was destroyed.

    January 2007
  • Illiman

Cut the Crap wasn't really Clash anyway... It only had Joe and Paul from the original members. :/ It's better if we just ignore that album and erase it from history. :P

    January 2007
  • Theedgerob

Also read Johnny Greene's book about the Clash. He was a roadie for them. It also has a forward by Strummer

if you haven't yet, read Redemption Song by Chris 'Sandwich' Salewicz, AMAZING. i've never laughed and cried so much through one book!! I WANNA RIOT OF MY OWN!

    January 2007
  • RatDay

Cut the Crap had maybe three good songs, and the recording was horrendous. An unfitting end to an amazing, amazing band.

    January 2007

You'd love it even more if you'd heard it how it was originally supposed to sound...
