If a young South African singer-songwriter from Capetown releases an album with 11 relaxed popsongs filled with light, warmth and highly infectious hooklines it is clear that people should listen.

The singer and songwriter Brendan Adams comes from an area near the city of Capetown and his Songs are based on experiences in his neighbourhood, an area whose inhabitants were known as coloured during the Apartheid regime, who are neither considered black nor white. In the middle of this setting Brendan was lucky from the beginning: his parents, both teachers, enriched his perspective with music and literature. The writings of Alan Paton, Ginsberg, Dylan Thomas and John Keats influenced Brendan on an artistic level as much as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen added to his musical creativity. But books and albums alone are not enough to pluck one from tough streets. “When you grow up in one of these areas and their circumstances, the future looks rather limited:”, says Brendan. Nevertheless, inspiration and hope is present in Brendan`s music.

His first guitar was given to him at the age of eighteen as a birthday gift from his aunt. From this moment on Brendan started to find expression through music, but his life as a musician had not yet begun. It was by chance that a job brought him to Europe in 2006, where he first lived and worked in Great Britain, before visiting his sister in Switzerland. It was his sister who encouraged him to have faith in his talent as an artist and face an audience.
