Yeah, definitely not industrial. Synthrock is what I've always called them

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

They are synth rock band, so they are PoPish :] I mean good POP like Duran Duran, A-Ha etc.

  • YukaSG

anyone know where i can find lyrics for the walking with strangers album? They come with the album.

    October 2007
  • todesziege

Pop or not - it's definitely not industrial...

    October 2007
  • Jumperjack

Whatever, I don't care. Right now I really love this album, I don't give a shit which genre it is supposed to be! love you all!!!!!!!!!!

I managed to get their new CD suprisingly on a uk auction on ebay, Very great so far

Bubblegum pop... ahh those were the days. No TBM are not pop, but definitely have pop elements. They are a synth-rock/industrial band still.

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

Britney nor Take That are bubblegum. Bubblegum pop is for children. Britney used to be bubblegum, but she hasn't been since her third album. Bubblegum pop is more like S Club 7, Steps, Aqua and so on - family friendly acts. I do not say that TMB genre is not pop because I think pop is negative, I just think it's the wrong category entirely.

anyone know where i can find lyrics for the walking with strangers album?

  • Jumperjack

TBM are pop, so are a lot of other good bands, Take That or Britney Spears are not pop, but bubblegum. I think a lot of people see pop as something negative. I do not, a good pop song is absolutely worth listening too and more.

    sucks god damn.

  • FallenLeaf

I love the new album, it's fantastic! =)

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

So to say that they sound a bit poppy is accurate and valid. 'Pop' is not their genre though.

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

I think TBM are a bit poppy. But 'pop' no longer means just 'popular', it's also a description of a certain sound. Above that though, 'pop' also stands for 'popular elements'. TBM uses electronic and drum loops which are popular elements. But as a genre - they are not pop. Pop is Britney Spears, Take That, etc.

    October 2007
  • tony7

Yeah they've always had that pop influence to me. Pop is not just how popular a band is, it's also a sound. To me they've always been pop industrial. I could always imagine their music (well most of it) playing on the radio one day. They really deserve to be more popular. :P

    October 2007
  • rkat

It doesn't mean that. \= Radiohead are popular but they aren't Pop. -_-

    October 2007
  • j-pk

once again, that's a load of bollocks. pop stands for popular meaning bands that are listened to by large numbers of people and i've yet to see TBM in the charts.

    October 2007
  • Jumperjack

OK, hate me for what I am going to say. This band is not Gothic!!!!!!!!!!!, I love them!, why?, because they are POP, with gothic and rock influences, but above all POP and they are fucking good at making POP!!

    October 2007
  • rkat

KoRnCHILD, I can see why you think that... they actually remind me a bit of Depeche Mode in Violet, but this genre can be easily confused with pop when it's actually synth rock mixed with electronic sounds. The new album is however very poppish.

    October 2007
  • neurotica21

ma qualcuno mi sa dire se verranno mai in Italia??? io ormai c'ho perso le speranze

    October 2007
  • j-pk

They were always poppish... well that's a load of bollocks.

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

    They were always poppish...

    October 2007
  • rkat

TBM are great! just got into them - violet is awesome! As for the new album, I'm not too keen on it, it's too poppish and seems like they've lost a lot of creativity points. <3 Under the stairs.

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

Wow they are playing mostly songs from new album :) there must be mosh pit on red stars hehehe

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

    Thanks, Manda!

Looking at my one TBM bootleg from less than a month ago, they performed Video Kid, Lovers End, Goodnight, Falling Down, Violet, Red Stars, Looking Glass, Weekend, Unfamiliar, Kill the Lights, Blue, and Happy Birthday. I don't think it'll be too much different from that.

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

What is their usual repatoire for a gig (excluding WWS which I know very well)? I have only just started listening to them, but am going to a gig next Sunday, and I want to know the songs!

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

i remember 1st comments here after kilt the light: it's sweet but it's nothing new and now?? evryone is saying that new album is different then previous, every next cd sounds more mature for me, it's natural. I also love WWS but i miss ERA I, that crapy demos and simple, catchy compositions, listen to the same song from N&N and Violet, they are diffrent, but who cartes --> i love all TBM STUFF!!

    October 2007
  • tony7

I think 'era 2' is a bit excessive, WWS is not THAT different. It's more similar to the guitar-heavy songs off Violet (Blue, Nevermind, Play Dead) which I thought would be the sound they extended on. But there's nothing even close to Happy Birthday or Lovers End on the new album, which is a sound I do miss. But I don't really care because WWS = awesomeness.

    October 2007
  • YukaSG

It appears I can't spell tonight... I meant old fans NOT liking new work. I like WWS, but at the same time I'm quite sad we won't be seeing anymore of Era I...

    October 2007
  • YukaSG

Perhaps we should do a Mortiis here and refer to WWS as a 'Era II' for the band. You know what people and bands are like with eras. New musical direction/different production... new fans not liking old work, old fans lot liking new work, old/new liking both... It'll be opinion-tastic.

    October 2007
  • iSui

    No, it's awesome! :P

    October 2007
  • rafaelsimmons

wws is not really good, some songs are cool, but the album is a little boring.

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

I'm liking 'Movie'. :) Trust me to like the ballad. Yea, I pretty much love the new album from beginning to end. Not sure about the other releases, though 'Happy Birthday' is really good.

    October 2007
  • x-Czarna-x

Blue- the best song TBM ever.

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

yeah, that crappy production was good!! it was TBM production style ;)

    October 2007
  • YukaSG

Walking with Strangers IS something of a departure from the last two. Nothing & Nowhere had half of its tracks redone for Violet. I like it anyway, because of the really crappy production on it. WWS is so polished it's unreal.

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

All three albums have arrived. What is the point of 'Nothing and Nowhere'? It's basically 'Violet' but with less songs. Annoyed with myself for buying that one on top of the others. I only seem to like the 'Walking With Strangers' album.

    October 2007
  • tony7

Well Red Stars and Blue might be 'synth-metal' but that's probably the end of it. Most of their songs aren't heavy.

    October 2007
  • FeastfortheVain

I'm just getting into this band, but I'm hunting for more songs like Blue, Lover's End, and Happy Birthday... can anyone recommend some to me? ^.^ Thanks muchly!

    October 2007
  • skinnydrifter

    should be called synth-metal.

    October 2007
  • skinnydrifter

I'm not usually into female-fronted gothic bands with a metal side, but I've come back to The Birthday Massacre with interest of Red Stars.

    October 2007
  • KoRnCHILD

yeah, all their albums don't have weak track for me ;)

    October 2007
  • iSui

Yes, I think Goodnight is my all-time fav from the new album. And atm I especially love Weekend.:) And I thought of Kill The Lights as the weakest song in the beginning but now I really love it, too. Well, there's no weak track anyway.^^

    October 2007
  • Jumperjack

Goodnight is such an awesome song, I really love Walking With Strangers but Goodnight is a true masterpiece!

    October 2007
  • manda11

    Unfamiliar is lovely. =)

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

I've heard some now. I think 'Unfamiliar' is my favourite so far. :)

    October 2007
  • CareALotsClouds

I am on dial-up, so I can't hear preview tracks properly (they break up or sometimes just don't play). I heard 'To Die For' and others bits and pieces, and it sounded all okay. I also took the risk because I'm a bit Emilie Autumn fan, and fans of her usually like TBM.

birthday massacre... like their fetish for the violet colour ^_^

Wow. I usually do a MySpace or Soulseek trial before I take the plunge...
