The Beltones

More than one band has the name the Beltones:

1. The Beltones were a seminal roots reggae, ska group signed to the legendary Trojan Imprint.

2. The Beltones were a southern punk band formed in 1994 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They released two full lengths on TKO Records (“On Deaf Ears” & “Cheap Trinkets”) and four 7”s as well as numerous compilation contributions. They toured all over America, as well as playing several European dates supporting Oxymoron.

The band is known for short and to the point songs, featuring gruff vocals, and fast tempos. Lyrics often deal with drinking and relationships with the opposite sex.

Got turned on to this band via an underground rock and punk show on San Diego's now defunct pirate radio station. Good stuff, production and drumming on the 2nd album is much better, song writing seems a bit more solid too. Last I heard the band relocated to Austin a few years ago.

The Beltones are one of the best bands out there. It's a shame that they only had 2 albums. The lyrics are catchy, good guitars going at it in an all out frenzy. What's not to like?
