• "You just don't understand the music." Damn, I guess this boy band is just too deep for me with their incredibly complex song structures and writing.
• "How can anybody compare One Direction with The Beatles????????" I can understand where the initial comparison comes from, but for one, the Beatles wrote the vast majority of their recorded material. Secondly, try finding footage of a Beatles concert when they are all just standing there, singing with microphones. You won't, but this is how One Direction typically does it. Thirdly, One Direction never knew each other prior to being a band, and in this sense they're somewhat of a manufactured act; after each one of them failed to get into The X Factor's male solo division, they got together just to get into the groups division. The Beatles (apart from Ringo) knew each other in high school, and they met Ringo through venues they would play at (he sometimes covered for Pete Best). In this sense, they're less of a manufactured act.

• fantastic....
• incredible.
• There are some obnoxious fans, but the most I encounter are able to acknowledge other bands as well. without only worshiping one. If one happens to like a band like The Beatles and deem it as their favorite, it makes sense if they act enthused over it.
• Her Majesty just want's to be scrobbled :(
• "I hardly see fans who "worship" The Beatles." what planet do you live in because i'd quite like to be there. [2]

• Every band has haters. Pay no attention to them.
• why did I post this
• Margaret Thatcher destroyed post-punk
• @spineshank155, Link Wray is the guy who invented heavy metal and punk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sRsqdlq6MM
• kinks are better anyway
• I hardly see fans who "worship" The Beatles. I just see people who are big fans of their music and the band members. Just because people like a band and regard it as their favorite, does not make them ass kissers or worshipers. And some Beatles fans are just annoyed at people constantly nit-picking the band by every little detail.
• The Beatles are good, it's the same with 'who invented metal' People claim that The Beatles or the Kinks are proto metal while artists like Black Sabbath, noting: "Early Black Sabbath albums feature tuned-down guitars, which contributed to the dark feel of the music. In 1966, before forming Black Sabbath, guitarist Tony Iommi suffered an accident while working in a sheet metal factory, losing the tips of two fingers on his right hand." [artist]Spineshank[/artist] are influenced/inspired by The Beatles. Doesn't mean SS's music is really influenced. A few band members from an artist might like The Beatles, but it doesn't necessarily mean they get all their influence from them. Melodeath started with band members from In Flames, At The Gates, Carcass and Dark Tranquillity. They knew each other (or at least some of them did), doesn't mean that 1 of bands are gods.

• With petty little details I meant the discussion that was going on who used fuzz/distortion first, who had the quickest selling debut album, who had the quickest selling overall album. These are trivial discussions and don't really add anything in a discussion about what influence The Beatles had on pop music. And I don't understand how you can admit they had an extremely big influence and say that without The Beatles music would still be the same. If you acknowledge that they had an 'extremely big influence' doesn't that automatically mean that pop music would be profoundly different if that influence wouldn't have occured.
