    first heard this song on Endless Summer a cheapo compilation in the UK on MFP a cheapo EMI label,loved in then and still do now some 30 years later.

    @nakkinak: it's the maturing material that made the difference. material provided by a certain brother of his. carl could have sung GOK just as beautifully earlier than 1966, i guess. and he would never have sung like this if it weren't for said older brother. i dig the anecdote of brian first playing the finished GOK product to the boys - they were not only stunned by what brian had achieved musically, but by carl's voice.
