A side project of Howe Gelb (Giant Sand).
Howe Gelb lassoed together the first Band of Blacky Ranchette twenty years ago. “We were reckless and young,” he reminisces, “trying to deliver some element of the old country records that we thought were so great.”
Talented musicians like Rainer Ptacek, Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Neko Case, Kurt Wagner (Lambchop), M.Ward, Richard Buckner etc contribute to the albums.

* The Band of Blacky Ranchette (1985)
* Heartland (1986)
* Sage Advice (1990)

* Still Lookin’ Good to Me (2003)

    Howe Gelb really put together a masterpiece out of energy taken from apparitions of country music's past with 'Still Lookin' Good To Me'. Do yrself a favor & get yrself a good vinyl copy of this and kick back for a solid listen. Amazing collaborations are scattered throughout, featuring Neko Case, Richard Buckner, Dallas Good, & M. Ward, just to name a few.
