There have been at least two bands named ‘The Avalanches’:
1. An Australian plunderphonics collective
2. A defunct American surf rock group
1. The Avalanches are an electronic/plunderphonics music collective from Melbourne, Australia. They are well known for their use of eclectic sampling, creating their debut album, 2000’s “Since I Left You”, entirely out of over 3,500 samples of obscure records, movies, and television shows. This is famously demonstrated on their hit single “Frontier Psychiatrist”.
Before this, they were a hip-hop group with the single album Rock City and the Extended Play El Producto.
Currently The Avalanches are appearing at outdoor festival events with a DJ set, and are still reported working on new material.

yeah, this album began the decade for me, blowing my mind on a sunday night on the radio (thank you late night dj for turning me on to this, whoever you are!) while driving with friends... and it still basically defines the myriad directions my tastes have spun off since then, while still managing to encompass nearly everything I like about music. it IS a holy grail.

I was talking about this album with a friend about how successful this is as a concept album. Traveling everywhere chasing your true love, only to be a step behind every time. The clincher is that we never know the outcome, because it changes on every listen. Those albums are the best in my opinion, where the outcome is completely up to the listener. We also agreed (flame away) that it's a good thing there is only one album. It just adds to the legend. Like a holy grail perse. I give albums a perfect score maybe once a decade on average (which is saying a lot because I'll admit I'm biased towards rock music), and I feel like anything after this would be just short of perfection. What do you guys think?

I was speaking in terms of the legality aspect of it all, not quality. I don't think copyright boundaries are why we haven't seen anything new, and I used GT simply as an example. Hence why my post was addressed at inyouraeroplane.
