the Anselm is a collective of three; a band of friends who’ve known that life-changing effect of music. Each of us has experienced that feeling of hearing a song that speaks directly to you, the shiver down the spine when the 7 combine perfectly and the breathlessness of a truly great song. Those experiences are what makes us want to be in a band together to write music that could have such an effect on others. We love music, especially adventurous music that pushes itself to transcend sound and become something more beautiful - we want to create something that approaches that.
Music is not the only life-changing force in our lives. We are each born again Christians who are sincere disciples of the Lord Jesus and our lives were changed by the faith we placed in God, who has given us peace, hope and a purpose in life. That is very much a part of our mission in making music. We write songs about Love, Life, metaphysics and the whole gamut of human experience and emotions, which of course in our lives are all coloured by our faith and our beliefs. So some of what we write is aimed at God, trying to put our appreciation of our lives in Him into words and music; some of it is aimed at ourselves, musing on life in service to God; and some of it is aimed at anyone else who might be listening, to tell them what God has done for them. Not every song we write has a spiritual subject, but they all have a spiritual context. We’ll write about whatever is important to us and whatever inspires us.
