Biography

Los Angeles, United States (2002 – present)

The Aggrolites are a band from Los Angeles, California. The Aggrolites are an amalgamation of two previous Los Angeles reggae and bands, The Vessels and the Rhythm Doctors, and were originally formed in 2002 as an in-concert backing band for reggae icon Derrick Morgan. The band were asked to record music for a new album for Morgan, and though the actual project was never released, the recording sessions inspired the Aggrolites to become a permanent band. The Aggrolites have also served as the backing band for Phyllis Dillon, Prince Buster, and most recently Tim Armstrong for his solo album “A Poet’s Life”.

In 2004, the Aggrolites released their debut album, Dirty Reggae, on local reggae label Axe Records. The album was recorded at Signet Studios in Los Angeles within one day, and each track was recorded in one take, with many lyrics improvised on the spot. In November 2004, the Aggrolites were featured on Hellcat Records compilation Give ‘Em the Boot IV, and were officially signed to Hellcat in October 2005.

Their 2nd, Self-titled album The Aggrolites was released on the independent label Hellcat/Epitaph on May 9, 2006… This sophomore album boasts 19 dirty reggae songs, including “Countryman Fiddle,” and “Mr. Misery.”

They released their 3rd album on June 5, 2007 called Reggae Hit L.A., which won an IGN award for Best Reggae Album of 2007.

The Aggrolites made an appearance on the Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba!, created by Christian Jacobs, lead singer of The Aquabats. Recorded their third song for the show “Animal Sounds”, it aired during the debut week of season two.

"Just wondering what an amazing band like The Aggrolites were doing with 311 and Slightly Stoopid" Slightly Stoopid sucks, but 311 rules.

I thought the newest album is by far their best, and echo Luuttuaja thoughts. Very thankful I even gave this a listen, because I was very close on giving it a pass, like I did to their last album.

New album is awesome. Instrumental, but when you are as good as these gents, who needs vocals? :)

You mean that after four pretty much similar albums, they should have released a fifth one containing only party reggae and some organ grooves? Celeles, Can't you just keep listening to the first 4 albums? I mean there's still something like 80 tracks on them...

What the FUCK is this new album? THIS IS THE MOST DISAPPOINTING FUCKING RELEASE OF ALL TIME. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR SHITTY INSTRUMENTAL DUB MUSIC FOR 40 MINUTES STRAIGHT. The frontman has an AMAZING voice, and you literally hear it on TWO tracks. FUCK. THIS.
