The Adverts were an English punk rock band who formed in 1976 and broke up in 1979. They are mainly remembered for their singles “One Chord Wonders” and “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes”. “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” reached the UK top 20 in August 1977.

Their first gig was to support Generation X on January 15, 1977 at The Roxy in London; their last was at Slough College on October 27, 1979. When the Adverts finally split up, T.V. Smith continued with Tim Cross forming as TV Smith’s Explorers, then Cheap, and finally through the 1990s to date performing as a solo artist.

Adverts’ guitarist Howard Pickup (Howard Boak, Born 1951) died in 1997 of a brain tumor.

Cast of Thousands is at least equal to Crossing. It's definitely more fully realized and feels like a true album (due to the great production and arrangements), whereas Crossing is a collection of a several great songs and some good songs. And I'd like to add here that imo all of the re-recorded singles on both albums are much better in the album versions, except for One Chord Wonders.

Cast Of Thousands is a totally underrated album. It had a strange production and some slower songs, but that makes his charms. And when i say songs i mean songs with great melody and lyrics, not that 1-2-3-4-stuff.

upon further review, "cast of thousands" is incredible, better than "crossing the red sea." both are great, but "cast of thousands" is a great album period, whereas "crossing the red sea" is merely a great punk album.
