Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. You can compute your own score at http://anthony.liekens.net/pub/scripts/last.fm/eclectic.php

  • January 20th: On this Day

    20 Jan 2007, 17:57 by tenderbranson69

2001, a memorial service was held for Kirsty MacColl who was killed in a boating accident off the coast of Mexico in December 2000. Bono from U2 and Billy Bragg were among friends and fans that packed St Martin-in-the-fields church in London.

1982, during a Ozzy Osbourne concert in Des Moines, Iowa, a member of the audience threw an unconscious bat onto the stage. Thinking it was one of his rubber fakes, Ozzy picked it up and bit off its head. The singer was taken to hospital to be given a rabies injection.

  • Bottom 20

    29 Oct 2006, 23:28 by stealthmunchkin

I've seen a few people on last.fm talk about their top ten tracks, as shown by the site. It struck me that it might be interesting to look at the less-listened to tracks. Everyone knows The Beach Boys and The National Pep are good, but what about more obscure stuff? So I've looked at the bottom of my overall charts, and picked out the twenty lowest ones I have on my computer (as opposed to stuff I've listened to via streaming radio or off CDs), and playlisted them. I may do this every week, and post it both to my LJ and to my last.fm account. I may not have much to say about some of these, which may explain why they're at the bottom of the list. But at least they're tracks where Holly won't keep complaining I always play them...

18,000 Lira . This song makes almost no impression on me. It sounds like pretty much everything else they do - punky, with an interesting but limited vocalist. To be honest, it sounds like the kind of thing my old band Stealth Munchkinmight have done had we had more of a sense of humour. …
  • Top 10 Artists, 8/27-9/3/06

For round two, I've decided not to bother with song or album tags since I can't seem to format them properly. Links to artist profiles should suffice anyway. Here's my ear diet for last week:

    10. The Style Council: I got The Singular Adventures of... real cheap a few months back but never got to give it a full spin until now. As brilliant as their best cuts can be (most of which derive from their finest hour, Our Favorite Shop AKA Internationalists in the US), there's a few yawners in their catalog. I've also got a 2-fer CD from The Jam I should break out soon. Nothing solo from Paul Weller although I had his first two solos in the 90s.
    9. Placebo: One of my favorite bands in existence for a little over five years now. The first album I heard was Without You I'm Nothing, which was cool, but Black Market Music made them essential. Not too keen on Meds but there's even a few cuts on that one I'd stick on a personal-best-of comp. I also got the live Soulmates Never Die DVD pretty cheap last Tuesday.
  • Guess That Song! Pt. 2

    3 Sep 2006, 00:25 by Carali

I know I’ve done this before, but I’m bored. There’s still some to be guessed in [url= http://www.last.fm/user/Carali/journal/2006/07/25/190429/]part one as well.

    Rules:

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 50 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Italicize the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

    1. Your arms are warm, they make me feel
    2. U give me this love
    3. When the truth is found to be lies Somebody to Love
    4. Sugar, oh honey honey Sugar, Sugar
    5. She was a rainbow once
    6. Something is wrong tonight, something very strange
    7. Melanie, what can the problem be? Melanie
    8. We all drink to forget, some of us more then most
    9. See them walking hand in hand across the bridge at midnight Girls on Film
    10. What will this day be like, I wonder

    Here's what you do:
Put your iPod on shuffle and listen to 50 songs. Each time a new song comes on, write down two lines that you like--no matter how embarrassing. Number 1-50 and write down the lines you noted. Now have other people try to figure out the songs you listened to just by those two lines. Any lyric-searching is CHEATING!
I'd like to apologize in advance for any lyrics I wrote wrong... some of these songs I NEVER EVER listen to... and I could barely understand some of the singing... yep... and some of these songs I hate a lot but they're on my iPod for other people if I'm with them, you know, so some of these I just wrote 2 lines down as fast as I could... anyway, here we go! P.S. Some of these are SO easy. I can't help if a line I like has the title in it... psh. I'll write down when people get them... if you actually play.
    1. He's unresponsive cause you're irresponsible now.

    2. THIS IS THE DAWNING OF THE AGE OF AQUARIUS.
    SONG: AQUARIUS
