The Sundays were an influential group of the late 19 and 19. Singer Harriet Wheeler and guitarist David Gavurin formed the band in college at , soon adding bassist Paul Brindley and drummer Patrick Hannan. Comparisons were drawn with original label-mates The Smiths, and bands such as Cocteau Twins, and 10,000 Maniacs.

Their level of commercial success was almost unprecedented by an indie act when their first album ‘Reading Writing and Arithmetic’ (, 1989) debuted in the British charts at number 4 , (even cracking the US Top 40) with little publicity and almost a year after the legendary single and John Peel fave ‘Can’t Be Sure’ peaked at number 45. This now seminal album also featured the single “Here’s Where The Story Ends” (more recently covered by ‘Tin Tin Out’) and other classic tunes ‘Skin & Bones’, ‘Hideous Towns’ and ‘I Kicked A Boy’.

A US tour and a (soon to become infamous) “break” preceded follow-up album ‘Blind’ (1992) for which sky-high critical expectations couldn’t be met, though single ‘Goodbye’ fared well reaching number 27. It was a long wait before third and most recent album ‘Static and Silence’ (, 1997) was released, followed by a 3-date UK, and 14-date U.S tour. Single “Summertime” (possibly one of the most summery singles ever released) was taken from this album, and garnered airplay in most parts of the world, although the follow-up “Cry” didn’t fare quite as well.

@MamaLuigi, I can understand, but it is hard also to say that, cause Elizabeth literally doesn't have one voice! As Robin himself said "She has a library of voices" and each one is beautiful and other-worldly. While naturally Harriet got one voice, and it has this earthly quality to it (I mean it as a compliment of course). Harriet is up-there with the best female vocalists I've ever heard. Shame that most people think screaming and hitting high notes is a sign for a good vocalist.

It's hard to say but her voice just might be more prettier than Elizabeth Fraser's voice.

@Cocteauholic, Agreed ! , I actually never heard that song in all my years of listening, I guess I must have skipped it somehow, but I was talking to someone I met, about music, and I mentioned the sundays, and they said that they loved the sundays, so i happily asked what they're favorite song was and they said Wild Horses, and I'm just draw question marks ... So I get home and search the song, and I'm still questioning, but now it's because i'm wondering how this could be a favorite song... Tisk Tisk Tisk @enid_coleslaw, YEAH! , I saw that when I youtubed the song, apparently it's majorly famous with famous people ...

@Sonicjr01, I think cause it is their easiest song to get into. I understand that if someone who isn't a fan of the band. But it is weird if someone who labels him self as a real fan of them and consider it their best or something, cause simply it is not theirs, and doesn't represent their sound. Songs like "Goodbye", "Here's Where The Story Ends" are the ones that do.

Harriet's voice in "A Certain Someone" is simply a siren! Amazing how she turn a sigh into a heart-wrenching note.
