The National is a Brooklyn-based band formed in 1999, by friends from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The band's lyrics are written and sung by Matt Berninger in a distinctive, deep baritone.     I love them. All the impossibility, thrill, desperation and painful hope in their lyrics/music. For me they're a spring afternoon when the rain just won't stop and you're taking a long ride on a bus that leads you somewhere you don't want to be and you're missing someone.
