Founded in 2004, The Minstrel Muse started as a one-man project by Tom Swinnen (Cuchulainn, Gerstenat). Now, in 2009, he has been joined by his significant other to form a duo. All of the instruments are played by Tom, while the vocals are mostly covered by Sara. Their music can be best described as a progressive blend between all sorts of traditional folk, a dash of rock and metal and other influences from all over the world.

The music combines several traditional instruments (such as English concertina, bagpipes, tin/low whistles, bodhran, mandoline, jew’s harp, hurdy-gurdy…) with modern instruments (Electric/acoustic guitars, synthesizer,…). Together they create the typical The Minstrel Muse sound.

A demoCD, to be called “The Long Road Ahead” is scheduled for release end 2009. Prior to this cd an EP, called “Prologue EP” was released featuring songs from the early years of “The Minstrel Muse” - unpolished and raw, The Minstrel Muse in its early stage. This EP can be downloaded for free!

Furthermore, the name “The Minstrel Muse” is derived from the Jethro Tull album: “Minstrel In The Gallery”, in wondering what could be Ian Anderson’s (Jethro Tull) Muse… hence, The Minstrel Muse (Didn’t quite fancy The Minstrel’s Muse).
