Texas is an alternative rock band which formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1986 and fronted by singer Sharleen Spiteri. The band was founded by Johnny McElhone (of Altered Images), taking the name from the 1984 Wim Wenders movie Paris, Texas. Their musical sound went from from debut album Southside (1989), via of White On Blonde (1997) to the of their most recent release Red Book (2005).

Sharleen Spiteri (vocals, guitar), Ally McErlaine (guitar) and Johnny McElhone (bass) have survived all line ups.

In 1994, Ellen DeGeneres requested the use of the Texas track “So Called Friend” as the theme tune for her self-titled ABC Comedy Show. Sharleen and Ally flew to the US to re-record the song to fit the theme song to the sitcom.

Sharleen Spiteri was asked to play the main role in movie “Moulin Rouge” but declined as she did not want to spend 12 months in Australia. Spiteri announced soon after declining that she was pregnant with her first child. In 2008 Sharleen released her first solo album Melody

Guitarist Ally McErlaine is married to Shelly Poole of 90s pop group Alisha’s Attic.

    @SofieVandepitte Well, I'm a sucker for White In Blonde. So I recommend you this album, The Hush is great, too, but a bit too "clean" in a way. Red Book also. Ricks Roas may be too bluesy for, Southside hat great 80s rock influences but may be too old sounding from that point of view.

    I'll See It Through - I was listening to the soundtrack of Love Actually, which contains this song. I started to look Texax up and I'm liking them so far. :) My mum owns The Greatest Hits album, so I can start to get to know that album first. Which album would I buy/listen after that? 'Cause I've got no idea..

    I remember this band in 90's when I was a child. I used to listen to their songs a lot and I used to love it. Good times :) But now I prefer the first and second album, because it sounds more blues and country rock, I think. I'm disappointed with the last albums, so poppier :/
