Biography

Considered one of the best guitarists in colombia, Teto Ocampo, musician, arranger and composer with a long list of credits, graduated from the Musicians Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, and studied Classical Guitar with Daniel Baquero, Chepe Beltran and Ramiro Isaza. He signed his first record deal at the ripe age of 16 with the now-defunct label CBS Records.

He was the musical director, arranger and guitar player on the albums “Clásicos de la Provincia” & “La Tierra del olvido” by Carlos Vives, co-director of the band El Bloque, one of the most relevant and influential bands in Colombian music history, who released an album on David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop.

El Bloque got rave reviews in the U.S., making it the top pick of the most important music critics in the U.S; The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune and Rolling Stone Magazine agreed that El Bloque was the best album to be released in 2000. Teto is currently guitar player for Richard Blair’s Colombian ensemble Sidestepper, currently signed to Chris Blackwell’s label Palm Pictures.

His talent and originality, and his rich knowledge of all the Colombian musical traditions is recognized in all national and international music circles.

Teto has worked with a long list of reputable artists such as Shakira, Oscar Acevedo, Tico y Toño Arnedo, and has worked in proyects such as Manguala, La Banda Dispersa de la Madre Selva, Riosón amongst others.
