    Friday morning
  • Gapkilla

i like both ashe and dan for different reasons. i'd actually love to hear a double album collaboration. disc 1, dan on vocals and on disc 2, ashe on vocals and on one song, a duet!! the album can be called Yin and Yang.

On odyssey you can really tell that Dan has to struggle with Ashe's songs.

The last thing Tesseract needs at this moment is screaming. Ashe sang some absolutely mesmerizing melodies on Altered State, which brought the best out of their music.

"Weird situation where everyone loves both Dan and Ashe so much that nobody can really tell whether this is good or bad lol" Nobody? Speak for yourselves. I think Dan is far superior.

I mean, it's technically insane progressive music... But the overall impression is that nothing stands out. And the new vocalist really doesn't work for me...

    Mehh.. boring new material

  • Gapkilla

@forfrosne it's okay, ashe will kick just as much ass in his other band voices from the fuselage. but for Tesseract's NEXT...NEXT album (obviously not the one they're working on now) they can do a double sided LP kind of like what skyharbor did and have two vocalists in one LP. would be pretty sick imo. best of both worlds and everyone would be happy.

Can't explain how stoked I am to hear new material with Dan.

Weird situation where everyone loves both Dan and Ashe so much that nobody can really tell whether this is good or bad lol [10] Both were amazing. I wish Ashe the best of luck. I did like that Dan can pull off harsh vocals as well though, means that Tesseract's sound can have a bit more diversity and aggression.

É ótimo ter o Dan de volta, mas vê-lo cantar as músicas do Altered State me dá uma aflição absurda.

I much prefer Ashe to Dan in tesseract ,but I just heard Skyharbor and it's pretty obvious that Dan has improved alot so I'm really stoked for new stuff.

Dan's are diverse? What? His monotone whining was what killed One for me. He has a great voice but he either screams (in a monotone way) or meows without any consideration for melody and variation. His vocals enchanted me on the first listen, but with each song I had more and more enough of him. Ashe was able to sustain variation throughout the album without resorting to screams even once.

I love both Dan and Ashe but i think it is good that Dan has FINALLY returned. His vocals are more diversive.

Sad that Ashe is gone :/ His unique voice was one of the things that caught my attention. I tried listening to the One album but Dan's screaming just wasn't doing it for me. But hey, they still make good music regardless of the singer so I will give them a chance--as well as Dan. I hope they continue to do well.

I have faith that Dan will be able to master the Altered State material given time and practice. Granted, I'm a fan of Tompkins, so I'm hardly an impartial critic. I did like the post he left on that video clip. He seems like a cool enough guy, and I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I am going to miss Ashe, though. I'm happy with either man as vocalist, but I truly loved Ashe's performance on Altered State. It will be sad to see him go.

I'm sure he'll do fine with the altered state stuff in time, I'm more worried about his creative ability for the next album

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVVh4PzXhqg - Dan singing Nocturne. He had some technical problems at the beginning. So far I don't dig it, but he still has to master the newer material.

I am no hater and I hate them (duh) myself, and I praise bands when they deserve it, but there is nothing wrong with being critical and having high expectations. I am just tired of fans jumping into critical (not hateful) discussions and being constructive with sentences like "they're best lol what are you even talking about". I do love a few bands myself but accepting of everything a band is doing because they're your favourite band and never being critical just doesn't lead anywhere.

    July 2014
  • benson_x

@Borreh, if that was aimed at me then I hasten to say that as this is Tesseract's shoutbox, surely utilising it to praise the band is its sole function, rather than ripping the shit out of bands, which is what people usually use shoutboxes for.

    July 2014
  • MaruFan

I'll be a minority and say that extreme vocals do fit in the band's sound. The contrast on One was epic

    July 2014
  • Borreh

Oh the rich fanboyish "they're best because they're best rite?" - "rite!" discussions..

    July 2014
  • DrawnToBlackk

and @benson_x is right. I believe that when it comes to a progressive band I think the vocals are a product of the music. What TesseracT do very well is that they use an unusual vocal style (Both Dan and Ashe do this) with a polyrhythmic background to differentiate it from other types of prog metal - It's made to make you listen, watch and embrace the music.

    July 2014
  • benson_x

I think Tesseract get too much criticism; they make fantastic music no matter who is fronting them, mainly because the band has such an incredible backbone due to Amos (bass), Kahney (guitar) and Postores (drums). Because they're all so talented, Tesseract seem to produce good stuff no matter who is singing, screaming or not. Eitherway, as @DrawnToBlackk says, we win.

    July 2014
  • Borreh

I hope to god there won't be any screams on the next album. [2]

I don't see the problem, Ashe is a very good vocalist as so is Dan. Regardless, we win ;)

  • Xplosif_91

I loved this group because of the perfect equation formed by Ashe's (unreal) voice and the perfect, brilliant bass, guitars and drums! Now that that equation doesn't exist ... what's next? :/

  • lhlhlh1

"Ashe, on the other hand, not only has a great voice but he also sings in an interesting way" "Also, after Altered States I think harsh vocals don't fit Tesseract at all" This. A million times this

    Welcome home, Dan! [3]

I do know - For me it's bad. I know Dan is a good vocalist but he has a lot of work to do to catch up do Ashe's level. Sure, he has a great voice, but his vocal lines were the weakest part of "One" for me. Ashe, on the other hand, not only has a great voice but he also sings in an interesting way. I was enchanted by Dan's voice at first, but as time went along I became annoyed by his whining - The guy just meows like a cat 80% of the time. Also, after Altered States I think harsh vocals don't fit Tesseract at all, and I am afraid they will return.
