Tell it to the Marines existed over the course of 4 years. They recorded one song back in 2006, which embarrassingly still sits on the internet database. They recorded it because they had nothing better to do in their towns and because their original guitarist had some money. The producer spent all his time eating pizza and drinking smoothies and said that English music wasn’t very popular.

In 2008 they saved up even more money to record two more tracks. They had a producer who was slightly nicer and charged less. They weren’t really friends & so eventually split up.

They reformed in 2009 with new members to record an EP and tour relentlessly. Not many people showed up. In one instance, the promoter was so pissed off at the lack of people that he told them to “fuck off back to Suffolk”. They did.

In July 2009, they toured 3000 miles over the course of two weeks and got paid in ham sandwiches every night. They all wanted to make loud, shouty rock music, which they did. They released the EP and were fairly proud of it - which went down okay. That was when they were 18 & 19 and didn’t really know what they wanted to do, so they toured a little bit more and then had a rethink.

Dan and Tim worked in a coffee shop together and spent their days talking about the band. John stuck stickers on boxes in a warehouse, Lewis put together parts in a factory and Luke drove a van for a living.
