Biography

Tearwave formed in the 2nd week of September 2006 in Lockport, NY (20 miles north of Buffalo,NY).

Doug White formed Tearwave with two long time friends Joe Villella and John Stephanski. Villella had been in several previous bands with White over the prior 15 years. His bass playing was always solid, melodic and as White stated: “Joe always has that knack for playing just the right notes and the right amount of notes - not overdoing anything, but getting the right feel and right lines for each song in there - and that’s not always the case with bass players. Joe was the perfect fit for the band.”

Stephanski and White met in junior high school and had always held a mutual respect for each other as musicians. Stephanski had recorded several times in White’s Watchmen Recording Studio over the years and White had always told Stephanski that his drumming was unique, interesting and like no other drummer that had come through the doors of his studio. White had always said to Stephanski “…someday, we’re going to do some recording together and it’s going to be something special.” White said of Stephanski: “He would stop by the studio and ask about my latest band and he’d always ask if my latest band was the band that was going to make it.” I always replied: “No.” White continues: “John is the most open-minded person I’ve ever met when it comes to music and spotting sounds in music. He is a unique talent, unlike any drummer, musician or person I’ve ever met.”

Hey, guys! check out this band from Switzerland: Last Leaf Down. The first time I listened to them I thought how melancholically, beautifully similiar their sound is to Tearwave : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_OeGO6_7JU

Well, it looks like Scarlet Embrace played a show 2 February 2013, but that was it for them. Reverb nation page is deleted, Facebook page is deleted. ScarletEmbrace.com has the 3 men in the group calling themselves something else, with her not shown on the main page, and the vocalist slot left open.

Interesting. Similar name to her first post Tearwave project, which was Cry For Lily, which never got off the ground. I remember there was a myspace page for that. Now this here, the video is still up on YouTube, but that Reverb Nation page does not exist. Took a little searching, but she appears to have renamed that project already to Scarlet Embrace: http://www.reverbnation.com/scarletembrace

I always thought it was funny how for a shoegaze band, all the guys look like they ought to be in the WWE.

@Oldskuul62 Sorry, didn't see your post for about a month. I suppose I don't think the whole band break up is funny, but the Myspace page itself with all the Republican friends, and references to Scientology. There was a lot more material there on the "old" Myspace. There are obviously still strong hard feelings, as the statement "Doug is a kook scientologist and a crab infested CUNT!!!!!!!!!!!" was just posted a couple of days before I am posting this. Makaras Pen doesn't sound too bad, but early indications (from LastFM airplay statistics) are that they won't be anywhere near as popular as Tearwave. This could very well be because of the economy though. Oh yeah, I haven't banned MP, nor do I intend to. But I sure as hell have to ban artists, and delete their plays entirely from my profile all the time, when my 16 yr. old daughter manages to scrobble her IPOD plays into my LastFM account.

@ Nostradumbass03 After reading that I fail to see what is funny about the situation. This band had a lot of potential . But someone obviously got a big head and that destroys more bands than anything else that I am aware of. Pretty crappy way to treat x band mates in my opinion . And NOT A CHANCE IN HELL I'll be buying anything from Makaras Pen . Not even interested in checking them out. I'll ban them on my radio and delete them if they somehow end up in my library. ( I better check that right now)
