Tara Simmons

If pressed Tara Simmons - the pintsized singer/songwriter from Brisbane - could probably quite easily be squeezed into a box. The same, however, could never be suggested of her music.

Combining “an ingenious mix of heartfelt folk with skittering sample-based electronica” (Topher Healy - Rave Magazine), Simmons sums up her sound best, simply calling it abstract pop.

In just under a year, the young singer/songwriter has self-recorded, self-produced and self-released two EPs – Pendulum and All The Amendments – to glowing praises from audiences and critics alike, and now anxiously awaits the release of her first long player – Epilation.

Priding herself on lifting the boundaries and constraints of music, Tara performs with a unique band configuration of multiple cellos, double bass, keys, electro-laptop, voice and kit – give or take any of the above. It’s this diversity that has seen her play alongside the likes of everybody from international visitors My Latest Novel (Glasgow) and Home Video (New York) right through to homegrown heroes like Eskimo Joe, The Living End and The Audreys.

With impressive radio airplay of singles ‘Everybody Loves You’ and ‘The Recycling Bin Song’, a nomination for the 2006 Q Song Awards and the 2007 Courier Mail People’s Choice Awards, a selected artist for Triple J’s Next Crop 2006, a forthcoming national tour, video clip and two songs in the film All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane, 2007 is shaping up to be quite a year for Tara Simmons.

“…a Brisbane talent worth keeping an eye on”
- Richard Kingsmill - Triple J
