To say that I am a fan of Quincy Jones
would be an understatement. I have always been a big fan of not only his music, but also his musical philosophy and even his attitude to life. But of course, his music was where it all began for me, right back when I purchased my first CD - Michael Jackson
's HIStory album, with its first disc dominated by Q-produced cuts - and in many ways, is where it all continues to end. Naturally, then, I've become a bit of a Quincy completist, picking up his various projects here and there, and sooner or later, I got to this one.
On the surface, From Q, With Love is a mere compilation of Q-produced love songs. However, with a smattering of new (for 1999, that is) tracks smattered across the album's two discs, featuring the likes of Tevin Campbell
, Siedah Garrett
, El DeBarge
and Patti Austin
, it also has the feel of a reunion of his old production charges. Can you honestly imagine if Michael had also popped up here…
